With American Express, employees can work from anywhere for 4 weeks a year

To make working more flexible for its employees, credit card giant American Express will now allow its employees to work anywhere for four weeks in a year, even if the pandemic subsides.

The “work anywhere” policy allows employees to work anywhere except their primary workplace for four weeks. These four weeks do not have to be consecutive and employees have the option to spread them out over a calendar year. During “work from anywhere” weeks, employees don’t have to report to the office.

The multinational divides its employees into three groups: hybrid, face-to-face, and virtual. About 80% of employees work in the hybrid work model. In this model, employees work at the office on average two days a week and at home on other business days. Steve Squeri, CEO of AmEx, said teams within a business unit would independently set their hybrid schedules and allocate a defined workday for the entire team. The new model will take effect on Jan. 24 in the US, UK, and Germany, while transitions to other markets will be based on local conditions.

The decision to build flexibility into the work culture was made after a company survey found that a significant percentage of the workforce now wants to work entirely remotely.
